Impact Of Plastics: Scientists Found Micro Plastics In Human Blood For The First Time!

Whether it’s from the deepest oceans to the tallest mountains, or from the air and soil to the food chain, microplastic debris is already present almost everywhere on the Earth. Now, more studies have proved that micro plastics have “invaded” human blood.

1

Micro plastics were found in human blood for the first time!

Usually, plastic debris less than 5mm in diameter are referred to ”micro plastics”, and its very small volume makes it difficult for us to notice its existence.

Recently, a study published in the journal international environment shows that scientists have detected micro plastic pollution in human blood for the first time. Previous studies have found microplastics in the intestines, placenta of unborn infants and feces of adults and infants, but microplastics have never been found in blood samples.

2

The study examined blood samples from 22 anonymous healthy volunteers and found that 77% of the samples contained microplastics with an average concentration of 1.6 micrograms per milliliter.

Five kinds of plastics were tested: polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

PMMA, also known as acrylic or plexiglass, is mostly used for the appearance of electronic equipment and lighting equipment.

PP is widely used in takeout boxes, fresh-keeping boxes and some milk bottles.

PS is widely used in disposable food packaging materials.

PE is often used for packaging films and plastic bags, such as fresh-keeping bags and fresh-keeping films.

PET is usually used for the appearance of mineral water bottles, beverage bottles and various household appliances.

The results showed that about half of the blood samples showed traces of PET plastic, more than one-third of the blood samples contained PS and about one-quarter of the blood samples contained PE.

What is even more astonishing is that researchers found up to three different types of micro plastics in a blood sample.

The plastic particle concentrations of 22 blood samples were divided by polymer type

How does micro plastics enter the blood?

Research shows that these micro plastics may enter the human body through air, water or food, or through specific toothpaste, lipstick and tattoo ink. Theoretically, plastic particles may be transported through the bloodstream to various organs throughout the body.

The researchers said there may be other types of microplastics in the blood, but they did not detect particles larger than the diameter of the sampling needle in this study.

5

Although the impact of micro plastics on human health is unclear, researchers are worried that micro plastics will cause damage to human cells. Previously, air pollution particles have been shown to enter the human body and cause millions of premature deaths every year.

Where is the way out for plastic pollution?

Far East Geotegrity Pulp environmental protection tableware has won high praise in the market for its distinctive characteristics and environmental protection style of wide range of raw materials, easy degradation, recyclability and regeneration, which makes it stand out among all kinds of plastic material substitutes. The products can be fully degraded in natural state within 90 days, and can also be used for household and industrial composting. The main components after degradation are water and carbon dioxide, which will not produce garbage residue and pollution.

Far East . Geotrgrity environmental protection food packaging (tableware) products use agricultural straw, rice and wheat straw, sugarcane and reed as raw materials to realize pollution-free and energy-saving production and recycling of clean energy. Has passed the international 9000 certification; 14000 environmental protection certification, passed the international inspection and testing of FDA, UL, CE, SGS and Japan’s Ministry of health and welfare in the United States and the European Union, reached the international hygienic standard of food packaging, and won the honorary title of “Fujian’s first single champion product in manufacturing industry”.

As a global threat, plastic pollution is posing a major threat to human health in the form of micro plastics and toxic chemicals. Far East Geotrgrity has the courage to undertake corporate social responsibility, adhere to scientific and technological innovation and promote the cause of green tableware! To leave a clean and beautiful world to future generations, Far East Geotegrity will continue to work alongside and cooperate with knowledgeable people in the industry with ambition and action to actively tackle plastic pollution, make unremitting efforts to promote sustainable human development and build a community of life between people and nature.
